Do you have a big upcoming move and have been looking for ways to make moving easier and ultimately save some money?  Well you’ve come to the right place.  I’m going to run through a few suggestions that our team has come up with to save time on your moving day and make moving easier for you and the moving company you’ve hired.

Disassemble Furniture Ahead of Time

The disassembly of furniture can be a real time suck on a moving job.  If a customer commits to taking their bed apart and our team shows up on moving day and they have not yet done so, this will impact the price estimate that we provided and ultimately cost you more money.  Taking apart furniture is not fun.  It’s also time consuming.  Moving companies should not mind doing this for you if you’d prefer, but handling this on your own before your move begins will certainly save you time & money.  The most frequent pieces of furniture we disassemble on jobs are bed frames, removing legs from couches & tables, desks, cribs, and any furniture you may have purchased that required full assembly, such as IKEA and Wayfair products.

Don’t Leave Any Packing for Your Moving Company

If you get 3 quarters of the way through packing up your home and decide to throw in the towel and have the moving company do that last room when they arrive, this will impact your pocket significantly.  This is something we see from customers all the time.  We understand that life gets busy sometimes and you don’t always end up having as much time as you thought.  But if you’re trying to make moving easier and save yourself money, make sure you pack 100% of your stuff.  It could take a moving crew an hour or more to pack up and prepare a room for moving depending on the size.  It will also require materials, such as tape, boxes, bubble wrap and labels.  In addition to the time it will take to pack your remaining items, these additional supplies will cost you money as well.  Do yourself a favor and pack up with your own supplies and your move will cost even less than you thought it would.

Ensure Parking, Elevators & Loading Docks are Reserved

This is a big one.  Unless you have designated parking in front of your home or in a driveway, you need to make sure the moving truck has a place to park at each location of your move.  You will always be able to go to your local city/town website and request moving permits to reserve a space for a vehicle.  If you take the risk of not reserving and your moving truck needs to park a few houses down instead of in front, this could potentially add HOURS to your move because of an increased distance of getting your items in the truck.

You can also make moving easier by reserving the elevator & loading dock (if applicable) when moving in or out of an apartment building.  This will typically require you to contact your building management company and reserve these for specific dates and times.  If you don’t reserve the elevator and the movers show up and you realize they need to carry your furniture up 4 flights of stairs, your wallet will be in grave danger because of the additional hours it will take to complete this job for you.

Make moving easier on yourself and your wallet by being prepared for your upcoming move.  If you need additional tips you should always be able to ask the moving company you’ve hired for best practices to make things go as smoothly as possible.
