How to Make Moving Easier for You and Your Wallet
Do you have a big upcoming move and have been looking for ways to make moving easier and ultimately save some money? Well you've come to the right place. I'm going to run through a few suggestions that our team has come up with to save time on your moving day and make moving easier for you and the moving company you've hired. Disassemble Furniture Ahead of Time The disassembly of furniture can be a real time suck on a moving job. If a customer commits to taking their bed apart and our team shows up on moving day and they have not yet done so, this will impact the price estimate that we provided and ultimately cost you more money. Taking apart furniture is not fun. It's also time consuming. Moving companies should not mind doing this for you if you'd prefer, but handling this on your own before your move begins will certainly save you time & money. The most frequent pieces of furniture we disassemble on jobs are bed frames, removing legs from couches & tables, desks, cribs, and any furniture you may have purchased that required full assembly, such as IKEA and Wayfair products. Don't Leave Any Packing for Your Moving Company If you get 3 quarters of the way through packing up your home and decide to throw in the towel and have the moving company do that last room when they arrive, this will impact your pocket significantly. This is something we see from [...]
Why Full-Service Storage is the Way to Go
Living in the Greater Boston area, there is a great wealth of options for personal storage. Whether you’re looking to store your items for a month, or for the next 5 years, it can be overwhelming deciding on a place to keep your belongings. Below are a few pieces of information to keep in mind when contemplating your next move to storage. What is Full-Service Storage? Full-service Storage is the process of hiring a Moving Company to come to your home, pick up the items you’d like to store, and then have the same company bring your items back once you’re ready for them. This is an option that many people are not aware of. It can be a major stress reducer, time reliever and money saver. Shouldn’t I Just Bring My Stuff to Storage Myself? The most popular options for people are typically to rent a Storage Locker at a Self-Storage facility. You pick the locker size that you want to rent, how long, and you bring everything there and take it out on your own. This also typically includes either stuffing your vehicle for multiple trips or renting a U-Haul multiple times to complete this process. Working with a professional moving company that has a Storage Warehouse also cuts out all of that “do it yourself” time. When crunching numbers to figure out what the best option is for you, you must take into account what your time is worth. If you’re going to spend a total of [...]
Moving Tips for Beginners
If you’ve never moved before (or even if you have) included in this post are some moving tips that our team believes can help you avoid some stress on your moving day. When to Start Packing We suggest beginning the packing process at least 2 weeks out from your moving date. Waiting until a day or two before you move to begin packing will just create more stress for you. It will also cause you to either forget something or not leave enough time for you to realize how much stuff you actually have. By beginning the packing process further in advance, you will save yourself money by allowing your mover to haul your stuff right out upon arrival instead of helping you pack up the goods you haven’t gotten to yet. Moving is the Best Time to Downsize There is no better time to get rid of all of the stuff that you don’t use or have been meaning to throw away then when you’re going through everything to pack it up anyway. All of those old shirts hanging in your closet you don’t wear, furniture that you’re going to be replacing, or just general clutter that has been living in the dark corners of your basement for the past few years are perfect candidates to be purged. This again will save you time and money on moving day by reducing the amount of items that need to go to your new home. Proper Labeling This will save you [...]
Should I hire a mover or just do it myself?
Ahh....the age old question that we in the moving industry consistently hear. When it comes time to move again, should you seek out quotes from Professional Movers or just rent a truck and lug all of your stuff out of your old home and into your new home on your own (often times by recuiting, or begging, friends and family)? Well, unfortunately there's no perfect answer to this question. It's much more frequent that a spry young professional will go to U-haul and rent a truck and do their best to tackle this job. This may be a good fit for someone who's been living in a 1 bedroom apartment in Southie, 3 years out of college, who still frequently hits the gym. But as people get older, and inevitably accumulate more belongings and start a family, completing a full move yourself into a larger apartment or your new forever home just outside of the city can be a very daunting task. If you are that younger person and don't have a ton of stuff, I say go for it. Maybe you'll save a few bucks. But once you get to a point where you really care about the items that you own, like your plasma TV or sweet new couch from Jordan's Furniture, your best bet is going to be hiring a professional moving company. Whether you choose to do it yourself or hire movers, check out this post for some helpful tips on how to pack everything [...]
