Ahh….the age old question that we in the moving industry consistently hear.  When it comes time to move again, should you seek out quotes from Professional Movers or just rent a truck and lug all of your stuff out of your old home and into your new home on your own (often times by recuiting, or begging, friends and family)?

Well, unfortunately there’s no perfect answer to this question.  It’s much more frequent that a spry young professional will go to U-haul and rent a truck and do their best to tackle this job.  This may be a good fit for someone who’s been living in a 1 bedroom apartment in Southie, 3 years out of college, who still frequently hits the gym.  But as people get older, and inevitably accumulate more belongings and start a family, completing a full move yourself into a larger apartment or your new forever home just outside of the city can be a very daunting task.

If you are that younger person and don’t have a ton of stuff, I say go for it.  Maybe you’ll save a few bucks.  But once you get to a point where you really care about the items that you own, like your plasma TV or sweet new couch from Jordan’s Furniture, your best bet is going to be hiring a professional moving company.

Whether you choose to do it yourself or hire movers, check out this post for some helpful tips on how to pack everything when moving to a new home.

There’s a great myth out there that renting a truck or stuffing everything you own in your car for 12 trips back and forth can save you a ton of money.  The reality is, the time and effort that you need to put in to pack and move yourself may not be worth it for you.  It can turn out to be even more of a hindrance if you and your friends damage a bunch of your stuff because you didn’t have the necessary equipment to make the move go smoothly.

Now obviously I’m somewhat biased.  I’ve seen first hand the great work that our team of Professional Movers can do helping someone move and how easy and stress free it can make it for the person moving.  But below are a few key reasons why you should hire a professional mover for your next relocation.

  • Highly Trained Professionals – A Professional Mover will understand how to properly protect furniture and pack fragile items, not just into a box but also for their transport inside of the truck.
  • Insured & Bonded – A true Professional Moving company will be insured and bonded.  This means that if anything goes wrong, maybe something breaks in transport or gets scratched up, they have a process in place to repair or replace those items.
  • Equipment – A Professional Mover will have all of the necessary equipment to keep your stuff safe.  This includes moving pads, dollies, stretch wrap, tape, appliance dollies, tools, straps and specialized boxes.
  • Stress Free – Moving is a very stressful time for anyone.  Just packing all of your stuff up can be exhausting enough.  In addition to that, getting your family and maybe even pets to a new home is a job in and of itself.  Have a professional come and move your belongings while you do all of the little things that will make your life easier, like unpacking, changing your address and setting up your new utility accounts.
  • Free Estimates – Any reputable Professional Moving Company will offer a free estimate.  If you aren’t sure if you want to do it yourself or hire someone, start with a free estimate.  This is a great opportunity to try to find a company that makes your feel comfortable and find a price that’s in your budget to get the move done.

I hope this information assists you in your decision of whether or not to hire a Professional Mover for your upcoming relocation.  If you’re interested in getting a free estimate from the Your Move team, just fill out the Online Request form on our website and we’ll get back to you in no time.
