If you’re just starting the moving process and need to find a moving company, we’ve put together a list of suggestions for some great places to start your search. Moving can be a daunting process, but we suggest using all of the resources that you have access to before beginning your mover evaluation and eventually making a selection. That means not just checking the internet, but looking to friends and family for suggestions as well.

Referrals
In my humble opinion, you can’t do much better than a great word-of-mouth referral from someone that you trust when you’re trying to find a moving company. Start by reaching out to friends and family that you know have moved in the past year and find out which mover they used and what their experience was like. This takes out the guessing game of just relying on the internet and can often lead to you finding a great local moving partner who will provide you an excellent moving experience.
Hopping on Google is a fast and easy way to find a moving company in your area. Run some searches like “movers near me” or “movers in (insert your local city/town)” and you’re bound to come up with a list of strong suggestions in your area. Google will also provide you with reviews and information on the local business. If you find some companies that look like a good fit for you, check out their website and social media pages. This will give you a deeper view into whether or not this looks like a company that you’d want to partner with for your moving day.
Yelp
Yelp is another great resource when looking for information on local businesses. They provide customer reviews and even allow the business to post photos and additional information about themselves, such as the variety of services they offer. Yelp also makes it easy to contact a business so you can message the company for a quote right through their website and communicate that way if you’d prefer.
Local Sites
Local sites are an awesome way to find a moving company in your area. Almost all cities or atleast metro areas will have some sort of hyper-local site where businesses can list themselves and their services. For example, we’re based out of Somerville, MA and some of the publications here that do a great job are Scout Somerville and Somerville Local First. They each provide information on a wide array of local vendors to work with.
Home Improvement Sites
There are a number of home improvement websites out there that will help you find a moving company and get quotes. Angie’s List, Homeadvisor and Houzz are just a few of the big ones. They may require you to pay a fee in order to use their services to get quotes so be wary fo that before giving all of your information to them. These sites typically offer reviews of local businesses as well.
We hope that these different resources are helpful to you as you search for a local mover to assist you. Again, we suggest using multiple resources and evaluate companies on different platforms before making an educated decision.
