Tips for Moving in the Fall

By |October 15th, 2018|Moving Tips|Comments Off on Tips for Moving in the Fall

We at Your Move, Inc. like to keep our customers informed at the start of each changing season.  Now, with Fall having arrived, the weather changing, and many Autumn movers going through the planning process, we're sharing this post. We've accumulated some tips from our moving professionals to help provide some insight into moving in the Fall and what you should consider that you may not normally need to when moving during other seasons.  Aside from checking all of the normal moving preparation boxes, like packing well in advance, getting moving permits for a truck, and purging items you don't need, below are our tips for moving in the Fall. Consider the Season If you're moving in the Fall, you want to keep in mind the items that you will and won't need during the planning and packing process.  The last thing that you want is to bring clutter into your new apartment that is completely avoidable.  If you have things like bathing suits, boogie boards and other Summer items, this is your chance to box them up and either put them into storage or a designated space in your new home such as the basement or attic. You should also take items out of storage that you will need for the coming colder months as the weather changes from Fall into Winter.  If all of your winter coats and boots are in storage somewhere or boxed up in the basement, do the opposite [...]

College Campus Storage Benefits

By |September 19th, 2018|Storage Tips|Comments Off on College Campus Storage Benefits

There are a number of benefits that come along with college campus storage.  Many of the College/University customers that our team works with in the Boston area find local storage options to be a critical part of their day to day operations.  In this post we'll highlight some of the major reasons why college campus storage customers come to the Your Move team seeking an alternative place for their belongings to reside.  Many colleges use as much local storage as they possibly can, but as student populations increase, much of this dedicated storage space becomes necessary to utilize for other purposes. Campus Construction Many of our customers require college campus storage due to construction that is occurring on their grounds.  Whether it be an entire building being renovated, a lab being updated, or just a rug in an office being replaced, these are all reasons customers come to us looking for space.  None of the above projects can successfully occur without finding a home for the items that exist in the spaces where work is going to be done.  Our customers find it much easier to have our team bring items to our storage warehouse than to try to find numerous local options to spread out materials across their campus.  Not to mention how difficult it can be to keep track of where everything is located if you don't have a professional inventory system in place. Too Much Inventory College campus storage also becomes [...]

What to Measure Before Moving

By |September 10th, 2018|Moving Tips|Comments Off on What to Measure Before Moving

Identifying what to measure before moving is a topic that we see many of our customers struggle with on a weekly basis.  Sometimes they are moving into a new home and don't realize how critical it is to meausre the new space they're moving items into, or they've purchased a new piece of furniture and forgot to check the dimensions before it is delivered.  As a moving customer, it can save you a great deal of time and money to understand if an item will or won't fit into your home.  This saves the time of a moving crew spending your valuable time(Movers charge hourly) trying to manuever a piece of furniture into a room that it cannot physically fit into.  And if a piece of furniture needs to be hoisted through a window to get it into your house, its better to know this prior to the move. We're going to cover the different pieces of furniture you should measure before moving and in what scenarios you should consider taking measurements of your home. Furniture to Measure To kick off the what to measure before moving discussion, let's talk about what the frequent offenders are of furniture that will most often not fit into a home.  The piece of furniture that we see unable to fit the most frequently is couches.  Couches/Sleeper Sofas are typically long, wide and oddly shaped.  When you are moving or purchasing a new couch, you always mant to [...]
