Items You Should Throw Out Before Moving

By |February 8th, 2019|Moving Tips|Comments Off on Items You Should Throw Out Before Moving

Before your upcoming move, there will surely be a large number of items that you've accumulated over the years that you decide to part ways with. We decided to write this post on items you should throw out before moving because many of our customers will often ask us about downsizing and the best way to do so. We also frequently get asked by customers what they can do to save money on their upcoming move. Well, these two things go hand in hand. By throwing items away, selling them, or donating them, you will be downsizing and ultimately shortening the length of your moving day. This will save you time and money once the move comes. You should also consider the new home that you will be moving into when you make these decisions. Will all of your items fit? Is there a particular piece of furniture that is the complete wrong size or shape for your new space? Asking yourself some of these questions prior to moving day will help you decide what items you should throw out before moving. Clothes & Shoes You Don't Wear Taking a hard look at your closet before moving can lead to a harsh realization of what items you actually need to keep. Old clothes and shoes you don't wear are the top items you should throw out before moving. If something doesn't fit you anymore, you never wear it, or its not in the best shape, get rid of it. Now [...]

Change of Address Checklist

By |January 28th, 2019|Moving Tips|Comments Off on Change of Address Checklist

Moving always includes the change of address process. Unfortunately, these two things go hand in hand and it is inevitable. For many people, this is something that they dread doing and put off until the last minute. It can actually be pretty pain free if you have the right sources. The key is knowing exactly where and when to go to change different key pieces of your new address information. Once you've gone through the process of packing all of your items, hiring a mover and getting settled on the big day, the last thing you want to do is learn that you'll have to be without internet or heat for a few days. Or if you move on a Satuday and the Patriots play the following day, you're sure going to want to have cable set up immediately. Below we're going to cover the critical details. We'll discuss what you need to change, where you need to go to change them, and when we suggest doing so in the moving process. The Post Office You definitely want to start by doing a change of address with the post office. We suggest doing this at least a week or two before moving so you don't miss any mail. This will allow you to set it up so that any mail sent to you at your old address will be forwarded directly to your new address. You can do this on line here and choose a specific date for your mail [...]

Many people choose storage as a way to keep many of the belongings that they no longer have room for.  A fair amount of planning and coordination can go into the process of figuring out the best storage facility that fits your needs.  For most people, once they figure out where they will store items and how they will transport their items to the location, the process stops. A very important part of this process that you should consider is how to prepare furniture for storage.  Much of this depends on the type of items that you're storing and how much.  For example, just storing boxes is typically much simpler than antique furniture.  Below we'll dive into some steps you can take to prepare your furniture for storage. Clean Your Furniture Thoroughly Cleaning your items thoroughly is the best first step that you can take to prepare your furniture for storage.  Be sure to wipe your items down with an appropriate cleaner for the specific material(wood, glass, plastic, etc.) and make sure that all dust is removed.  You'll also want to make sure that you thoroughly dry each item that you wipe down.  If your furniture is stored with any moisture on them, they can get permanently damaged over time. Label Boxes and Containers Many people use storage facilities for their boxes and plastic containers that they've filled with stuff that they either no longer have room for in their house or don't have [...]

By |November 19th, 2018|Moving FAQs|Comments Off on Hiring Movers for Moving Furniture Within Your Home

Moving furniture within your home is no small task.  There's a reason why you hired movers to help you move all of these items in your house in the first place.  Now you're interested in changing things up.  Maybe you're looking for some new Feng Shui in your living room.  Or maybe you're converting a spare room to a bedroom and need to shift a bunch of heavy furniture around.  Whatever the situation is that's causing you to relocate items within your house, it can be a big undertaking. We receive requests like these from customers extremely often.  And typically those requests come with a fair amount of pleasant surprise when a customer learns that we are more than willing to send out movers to assist someone with moving furniture within your home. I'm not sure what causes such reluctancy in customers to reach out to a local mover to assist with moving furniture within your home.  It seems that most people think that it's such a small task for a moving company that there's no way that they'll send out movers just to shift around a couple of pieces of furniture for them.  That line of thinking is completely inaccurate.  We love to help our customers with all of their internal moving needs!  No job is too small of a task for most local moving companies.  Below are some of the most common reasons that customers reach out to us for internal moving [...]
