We at Your Move, Inc. like to keep our customers informed at the start of each changing season. Now, with Fall having arrived, the weather changing, and many Autumn movers going through the planning process, we’re sharing this post.
We’ve accumulated some tips from our moving professionals to help provide some insight into moving in the Fall and what you should consider that you may not normally need to when moving during other seasons. Aside from checking all of the normal moving preparation boxes, like packing well in advance, getting moving permits for a truck, and purging items you don’t need, below are our tips for moving in the Fall.

Consider the Season
If you’re moving in the Fall, you want to keep in mind the items that you will and won’t need during the planning and packing process. The last thing that you want is to bring clutter into your new apartment that is completely avoidable. If you have things like bathing suits, boogie boards and other Summer items, this is your chance to box them up and either put them into storage or a designated space in your new home such as the basement or attic.
You should also take items out of storage that you will need for the coming colder months as the weather changes from Fall into Winter. If all of your winter coats and boots are in storage somewhere or boxed up in the basement, do the opposite of these that you did with the Summer items and have your movers bring them into your living space.
Lookout for Leaves
When you’re moving in the Fall, you’ve got to be aware of falling leaves on walkways, particularly in the northeast. Leaves can be extremely slippery. The last thing that you want on moving day is for you or one of your movers to get injured during your move from an avoidable hazard. Grab a stiff broom the morning of your move and clear ant leaves off the path from the moving truck to your front door to the best of your ablility. Upon arriving at the new location your moving to, be sure to do the same to the path there as well. This can potentially save you from a major headache.
Setup Utilities in Advance
Now this is a tip that we always suggest during the moving process, but we like to over-emphasize it during the Fall and Winter months as the temperature is dropping significantly. If you’re moving in the Fall, you want to start the utility setup process at minimum several days prior to moving. You don’t want to move into a new house and have it be freezing cold for the first few days because you forgot to contact the utility companies. You also don’t want to miss a Patriots game on Sunday because the cable company couldn’t make it out until Monday morning to get you set up!
If you’re going to be moving in the Fall, we hope these tips prove to be helpful. If you’re interested in receiving a moving or storage estimate from the Your Move Team, just fill out our Moving Request Form and we’ll be happy to assist you!
