How to Get Rid of Items Before You Move

By |February 26th, 2018|Moving Tips|Comments Off on How to Get Rid of Items Before You Move

If you have an upcoming move quickly approaching and are trying to figure out the best way to get rid of items that you no longer need before you move, this guide will help you navigate the process.  There are multiple ways to to downsize before you move.  You can sell, donate or dispose of items that you no longer want or need.  Moving is always the best time to downsize and lighten the load that you need to take with you to your new home.  This may not only reduce the amount of time that your move will take, but put some extra cash in your pocket from selling some of your possessions.  We also encourage you to ensure all of your furniture, particularly larger pieces, will fit into your new home by taking measurements beforehand.  This could make the decision of whether to keep or get rid of something much easier.  The last thing you want to do is have your movers spend a great deal of time trying to fit a piece of furniture into your house, just to have to find a new home for it anyway. Offer to Friends & Family A great place to start when looking to get rid of items is turning to friends and family.  Look to the network of people that you know to see if they would like to be the next proud owner of your stuff.  This typically isn't the best route [...]

How to Tip Your Movers

By |February 21st, 2018|Moving FAQs|Comments Off on How to Tip Your Movers

Trying to figure out how to tip your movers is never a a simple task.  Every individual has a different view of what a fair tip is.  Our customers consistently ask us what we suggest for tipping their movers.  There is no exact answer to this question, but we have come up with some industry standard suggestions for you to keep in mind at the completion of your next moving experience. We do encourage you to keep in mind that moving is a part of the service industry.  People often don't view movers in the same light as restaurant staff, hairdressers or barbers when it comes to tipping.  This may be due to moving being such a large life event and the very high, yet deserved, expectations for movers to do a good job. When do my movers deserve a tip? Tipping your movers is not a requirement.  Your personal financial situation is an important part of the equation and movers do not expect a tip.  That being said, if you can afford to tip your movers and they provide you a very high-level of service, provide them with a tip that you feel they deserve for their efforts.  A high-level of service might mean that they worked extremely hard and moved very fast, without damaging any items.  Maybe they completed the move much faster than your moving estimate suggested.  They may have also taken extra special care of your most prized possessions by [...]

How to Find a Moving Company

By |February 12th, 2018|Moving Tips|Comments Off on How to Find a Moving Company

If you're just starting the moving process and need to find a moving company, we've put together a list of suggestions for some great places to start your search.  Moving can be a daunting process, but we suggest using all of the resources that you have access to before beginning your mover evaluation and eventually making a selection.  That means not just checking the internet, but looking to friends and family for suggestions as well. Referrals In my humble opinion, you can't do much better than a great word-of-mouth referral from someone that you trust when you're trying to find a moving company.  Start by reaching out to friends and family that you know have moved in the past year and find out which mover they used and what their experience was like.  This takes out the guessing game of just relying on the internet and can often lead to you finding a great local moving partner who will provide you an excellent moving experience. Google Hopping on Google is a fast and easy way to find a moving company in your area.  Run some searches like "movers near me" or "movers in (insert your local city/town)" and you're bound to come up with a list of strong suggestions in your area.  Google will also provide you with reviews and information on the local business.  If you find some companies that look like a good fit for you, check out their website and social [...]

7 Apartment Moving Tips

By |February 5th, 2018|Moving Tips|Comments Off on 7 Apartment Moving Tips

Moving from one apartment to another can be just as difficult as planning a move for a 3 story home.  Our team came up with some helpful apartment moving tips to help make your moving day a breeze.  There are small details that you must consider when moving from one apartment to another that may not typically come into play when moving out of or into a residential home. Start Packing Early One of the most critical apartment moving tips that we can provide is to start your packing process as early as possible.  Just because you don't have a huge living space, doesn't mean that it'll take you less time to pack up.  Depending on how long you've been living somewhere, you've likely accumulated much more stuff over time than you originally had when you moved into your current apartment.  Try to set aside time a month out from your moving day to start going through items and developing a plan for what's coming with you and where you'll begin and end your packing. Downsize As we would suggest for anyone who is moving, this is the best time to downsize.  Go through all of your stuff and purge the items that you no longer use or need.  You're going to be touching every single thing in your apartment anyway.  If you're moving into an apartment that is smaller than the one you're departing, you may also want to look into a storage [...]
